  3. 9th Annual Modesto Marathon Movie & Wine Night

    January 20, 2018, 4:00 PM @ State Theatre

    For the 9th annual Modesto Marathon Movie & Wine Night sponsored by Rabobank, we are excited to be showing the new documentary Skid Row Marathon, the inspiring story of a Los Angeles judge who starts a running club on Skid Row and helps its members get a second chance at life as they battle their addictions. Representatives from the film will be on hand for a Q&A session following the film. The evening features food from UNO Pizzeria & Grill and Fuzio Universal Bistro, wine, drawings and a silent auction. Movie & Wine Night is a fund-raiser for the Teens Run Modesto program, in which we teach area youth, especially those considered at risk, how to train for and eventually run the Modesto Marathon. Currently 400 students participate in the program.. Movie & Wine Night is put on by the ShadowChase Running Club of Modesto. Tickets for adults include a wine glass.   7. 24th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration

    January 20, 2018, 6:00 PM @ MJC Performing Arts and Media Center Auditorium, East Campus

    The keynote speaker for the 24th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration is Dolores Huerta, an influential labor activist and leader of the Chicano civil rights movement who co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers. The program celebrates the life and legacy of King, and it is open to the public. The evening also features the presentation of the 2018 Martin Luther King Legacy Award to attorneys Jacq M. Wilson and Jacque Wilson, founders of the Advocates for Justice (AFJ). The MLK Commemoration wind ups with a question and answer session with Huerta.
