Waterwaste Division Message

Clogged Storm Drains

The Wastewater Division works year-round to prepare for winter storms. During this time of year, storm drains can easily become overwhelmed with fallen leaves and street debris. Raking leaves away from storm drains will greatly decrease clogged storm drains. To report clogged storm drains, call 209-577-6200.

Enforcement Program

Starting January 2019, the City of Modesto Solid Waste Division will be stepping up our inspection and enforcement program on garbage bins before they are picked up on your garbage day. Disposing of items other than what's intended for green can, will incur an automatic citation. For more information on how to use your green can, what happens to its contents, and inspections, read the City Manager’s blog.

Christmas Tree Recycle

Christmas Tree Recycling

Did you know that you can recycle your real Christmas tree? It can be picked up by the City from your curb in January and recycled into compost. Follow the steps below:
• No artificial, flocked, or treated trees allowed for pickup
• Remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and decorations
• Remove the stand/base
• Do not wrap in plastic

• If the tree is taller than six feet, cut it in half or cut the top off so no piece is longer than six feet
• Place the tree at the edge of the street by the curb on your regularly scheduled Green Waste Collection Week- See Waste Collection schedule
• Do not block water flowing through the gutter
• If you have any questions, contact the City of Modesto Green Waste Division at 209-577-5463
