• Accessory Units (Mother-in-law Units)
  Modesto permits accessory units, sometimes called "mother-in-law" units or second units to be built on single-family lots under certain circumstances. If you are interested in adding a second unit to your lot, you are encouraged to call the Planning Division at (209) 577-5267 to determine whether your lot is suitable for a second unit.
