Over 60% of the department calls
are emergency medical responses.
All MFD firefighters are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
with additional certification in automatic defibrillator use. This
allows a basic life support (BLS) crew to be on scene at a medical
emergency within an average response time of four minutes.
Additionally, three of our companies are staffed
with a paramedic. This allows advanced life support (ALS) measures
to be initiated especially in areas where paramedic ambulances have
extended response times. All Modesto Fire
Department's EMTs and Paramedics continually train to maintain their
skills as well as remain certified by local, state, and national
regulatory agencies.
