Early Morning Fire at Modesto Church

At 0155 this morning, Modesto Fire Units responded to a working fire in a church in South Modesto. The fire was at the Templo El Buen Samaritano Church  located at 529 Rio Grande Ave. Engine 10 arrived in 5 minutes and reported heavy smoke from the first floor of the 2 story church.


The fire was upgraded to a 2nd alarm bringing 5 engines 2 trucks and 1 battalion chief to the incident. Crews were able to locate and extinguish the fire in 20 minutes with an aggressive offensive fire attack. The fire was confined to 25% of the structure and damage estimates are $150,000. The fire is under investigation. Modesto fire units responded to several other suspicious fires in this area last night. No injuries have been reported and we are working with the pastor to secure the church.
