Are you an Architect or Engineer? Do you know anyone with building experience and expertise that would like to serve on the Board of Building Appeals? If so, the City of Modesto is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the City’s Board of Building Appeals. Upon recommendation by the Safety & Communities Committee, the selected applicants will be appointed by the City Council to four-year terms, one of which will be as an alternate.
The City of Modesto Board of Building Appeals has several functions:
- To determine the suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction.
- To provide for reasonable interpretations of the provisions of the California Building, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical Codes; Flood Damage Prevention Regulations and the City of Modesto’s Building Maintenance Code.
- To hear appeals from any person having any record title or legal interest in a building or structure that has been issued a Notice of Violation, Notice and Order, or any action by the Chief Building Official.
Meetings are held the fourth Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. at Teth Street Place, 1010 Tenth Street.

Applicants must be registered to vote in the City of Modesto and be capable of voting on building construction issues based on experience and training. Applications will be accepted through November 30 and are maintained for at least one year.
