Earth Day in the Park Festival - Saturday, April 20

Modesto’s 24th Annual Earth Day in the Park Festival is just around corner and we are looking forward to seeing everyone there to help us ‘Celebrate Green!’ This FREE community event will be held at the Graceada Park, located in downtown Modesto on the corner of Needham & Sycamore from 10a.m. to 4p.m. A FREE StaRT shuttle bus to and from Graceada Park every 20 minutes at the CrossPoint Church Parking lot on Needham has been added for the convenience of the attendees.

This unique event offers many opportunities to learn about the environment in a family-friendly atmosphere. There will be over 90 exhibitors showcasing their products and detailing what they are doing to help make our community a vibrant place to live, work and play. It’s an entire day of "green education", free local entertainment, delicious food, kid’s arts and crafts, a toter art contest by local Junior High Schools, prizes and much more!

Be sure to attend the free Boyett B Green Recycling Event held on Stoddard Avenue between Park and Sycamore Avenues. This is a convenient drive thru event where all recyclables donated are matched dollar for dollar by Boyett Petroleum. 100% of the funds are applied to the City of Modesto “Adopt a Park” Program to complete funding of the endowment for the new dog park at Elk Park and additional park planned improvements. Items accepted for recycling include:

·         On site document shredding (limit of 5 file boxes or grocery bags per person)

·         CRV Bottles, Cans, Plastic & Scrap Metal

·         E-Waste (TV’s, computers, laptops, video games, electronics, etc.)

·         Ink Jet, toners, cartridges

In addition, Covanta Energy will also be collecting small batteries and cell phones and Modesto Sunset Lions Club will be collecting eyeglasses. Look for their booths!

This year’s entertainment includes music from local artist and 2012 MAMA award winner The-High-Voltage-Band, returning Country favorite Southern Bend, The Pendeltons and a demonstration from the Modesto Police Departments K9 Unit.

A special thanks to all of our Earth Day sponsors. Without their commitment to our community this event would not be possible. Please stop by their booths and thank them for their participation and all the effort they put into making our environment “green”.
