Deceased Body Found Identified as Missing Modesto Woman

Missing Person Case Now Becomes Homicide Investigation

MODESTO, CA Modesto Police have identified the deceased body found last night as that of the missing 28-year-old Modesto woman, whom investigators suspected her disappearance as suspicious.

On Friday January 11, 2013 at about 7:30 P.M., Modesto Police officers arrived to the corner of Claus Road and Creekwood Avenue in southeast Modesto, for a report of a suspicious object discovered by a passing citizen. When officers arrived, they located the deceased body, which was near the base of the pedestrian foot bridge.  The landscape of the area is secluded due to large shrubs and trees.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators worked throughout the night and morning processing the crime scene.  Due to the position of the victim, at the time of the discovery, investigators were not be able to determine the age, sex, or condition until the scene had been processed and the Stanislaus County Coroner's office was able to recover the body.  Early this morning, the Coroner's office was able to recover the body and the victim has been identified as Eldoris Christine Graham of Modesto.

Modesto Police became aware of the disappearance of Eldoris Christine Graham on Saturday, December 15th when Grahams mother called the police when Graham failed to show up for work.  Officers learned Grahams mother last spoke to Graham on Thursday, December 13th, when Graham indicated she was going to be traveling to the Bay Area with her live-in boyfriend, 36-year-old Anthony Devon Coxum.  Grahams mother became concerned when she had not heard from Graham in the proceeding days and reported Graham as missing when Graham failed to show up for work.

Investigators initially spoke to Coxum, who said he dropped Graham off in the Bay Area. Investigators attempted to follow-up on the initial information provided by Coxum, however, as the investigation progressed, it became evident Coxum had been inconsistent in his statements and not forthcoming.

The investigation became more complex on December 27th, when investigators learned Coxum had been stopped and arrested by the Cumberland County Sheriffs Office in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Coxum was arrested for probation violations by local authorities in North Carolina. At the time Coxum was arrested, he was driving Grahams vehicle. To date, Coxum remains in custody in North Carolina for unrelated probation violation charges and has remained uncooperative with authorities.

Investigators will continue to sift through and process evidence collected from the crime scene and follow-up on investigative leads. The Stanislaus County Coroner's Office is scheduled to  conduct an autopsy on Monday. Because this case is now an active homicide investigation, homicide detectives will not be disclosing specific information regarding this case, in order to preserve the integrity of this investigation.
