MODESTO, CA- Alert citizen assists in capturing two suspects during daytime burglary.

On February 1, 2013 at approximately 9:30 AM an alert citizen called 911 to report what appeared to be a suspicious vehicle and residential burglary in progress. The watchful citizen noticed a white Mazda minivan park in a neighbor’s driveway. The two male occupants exited the vehicle and went into the backyard of a different residence.

Due to this citizen’s watchful eye of their neighborhood, officers were able to arrive at the location in time to surround the house while both suspected burglars were still inside the residence. While officers were outside the house, both suspects exited the house with stolen property in their possession. The two suspects surrendered without putting up any resistance. This incident occurred in the 1900 block of Cielito Drive in Modesto CA.

While inside the residence, the two suspects had made preparations to take two flat screen television sets, a laptop computer, a safe, a Play Station game console, and several video games. When the two suspects initially exited the house they had miscellaneous jewelry and cellular phones in their possession which were stolen from inside the residence. Both suspects were cooperative with investigators and claimed to be members of a criminal street gang. All of the property was recovered and returned to the owners.

Officers involved in the incident credit the observant eye of the alert citizen who called in the suspicious vehicle. The caller did not recognize the two suspects from the area or as the residents of the home they went in the backyard of. Familiarity with neighbors, being an observant witness, and a citizen’s willingness to assist all helped in the apprehension of these two suspects.

The two suspects arrested have been identified as:
-Cristian Zamora, an 18 year old Modesto resident. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on Penal Code charges of 460(A)-Residential Burglary, Penal Code 186.22- Participation in a criminal street gang, and probation violation.
-One 17 year old male Modesto resident was booked for violation of Penal Code 460(A)- Residential Burglary, Penal Code 186.22- Participation in a criminal street gang, and probation violation.
