Modesto, CA- Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit in a real police car? (In the front seat that is…) Do you want to learn more about effective ways to prevent you and your family from becoming the victim of a crime? Are you interested in learning more about the many services offered by the police department?  If your answers are yes to any or all of these questions, then the Modesto Police Community Police Academy is right for you!

Applications are now being accepted for people interested in learning all about the various services the Modesto Police Department provides and the challenges the agency faces as the department continues to make the City of Modesto a great and safe place to live, work, and visit.

This is a unique opportunity that allows members of the community to go behind-the-scenes of the Modesto Police Department and gain a better understanding of the job that the dedicated men and women of our department perform.

The Community Police Academy is scheduled to begin on April 17, 2013.  Participants will meet one night a week for seven weeks. This interactive experience will cover a variety of topics to include:

·        Overview of the Modesto Police Department and crime in the Central Valley

·        The Role of the Police in America

·        Laws of Arrest, Search & Seizure, and Rules of Evidence

·        Gang and Drug Awareness

·        Specialized Units (K-9, SWAT, Traffic, Equestrian, task forces, etc.)

·        Crime Prevention and Awareness Programs

·        How you can become more involved through the Department’s Volunteer Program, Neighborhood Watch, etc.)

The course is FREE and class size is limited, so if you are interested it is recommended to submit your application right away!

Participants must be at least 18 years of age and live or work within Stanislaus County, however, first priority will be given to Modesto residents.  This academy is an educational & awareness opportunity and not intended to train participants for certification as law enforcement officials.
