Modesto, CA- Join us for a fun and exciting family event, as runners and walkers take over downtown Modesto to honor Stanislaus County’s fallen law enforcement officers.

The Peace Officer Memorial Group of Stanislaus County (POMG) is excited to announce that on September 22, 2013 they will host the second annual Peace Officer Memorial Run Half Marathon, 5K, FREE Kids Fun Run, and Race Day Expo/Safety Faire.  The event will all take place in downtown Modesto in front of the Gallo Center for the Arts.  Whether you are a runner, walker, volunteer or just want to stop by and enjoy the event, we have something for everyone.  At the safety faire there will be K-9 demonstrations, SWAT Team members, McGruff the Crime Dog, various health and fitness vendors, Crime prevention officers and more.  Participants will become familiar with the fallen officers as their pictures are projected on the Gallo Center for the Arts LCD screen.  Below is a brief description of each event.

HALF MARATHON (13.1 miles)

The start line, finish line and each mile of the half marathon will be dedicated to one of the 15 officers from Stanislaus County who have been killed in the line of duty.  Each mile marker will display a picture of one of the fallen officers, their “End of Watch” date, and the name/logo of the organization or individual sponsoring that mile.  The half marathon makes its way through the scenic college area, passes by the McHenry Mansion and Graceda Park and flows into Dry Creek Park.  It is a flat, fast course that is sure to draw runners and walkers of all abilities.

5K (3.1miles)

The 5K will follow the initial course of the half marathon past the McHenry Mansion and through the scenic college area.  The 5K will stay in the downtown area and wind its way back to the start/finish line.  This is a very runner/walker friendly course.

FREE Kids “Catch the Crook” Fun Run

The Kids Fun Run is going to be a blast.  Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson will “deputize” the kids before they set out to chase a crook dressed in black and white jail attire.  This event will be free and is approximately a half mile long.  Participants will receive a refreshing complimentary Jamba Juice for their efforts.

Race Day Expo/Safety Faire

The race day expo/safety faire is sure to be an event all by itself.  It will encompass a three block area around the start/finish line and boasts K-9 demonstrations, SWAT team members, vendors, McGruff the crime dog and much more.  It is sure to be a huge draw for race participants and the general public alike.

The event will begin with a brief ceremony to recognize and honor those officers that have sacrificed their lives while serving the citizens of Stanislaus County.
