Modesto, CA- Complaints from businesses prompted a patrol officer to initiate a collaborative clean-up project along Highway 99.
After receiving complaints of illegal camping along the eastside embankment of Highway 99, south of Briggsmore Ave, a patrol officer teamed up with members of the Crime Reduction Team and officials from Cal Trans to begin a two-week project to abate the nuisance site. Officers posted illegal camping notices around the location and issued citations to individuals who did not comply with the ordinance. Yesterday the collaborative team ended their project by conducting an extensive clean-up of the area.
During the clearing of the encampments, dangerous items associated with drug and alcohol use were located. With the large amount of debris, bulky items and graffiti removed, officers believe the location will be less attractive to individuals conducting illegal activity and provide a more attractive sight for those traveling through Modesto.
