Modesto, CA – Police rescue two shooting victims from a west Modesto residence early this morning.
At about 12:05 AM police were called to the 1100 block of Cannes Ave to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they saw several individuals exiting the residence. Those who exited were questioned and told police an injured female victim was still inside the home with the suspect. A male victim was located outside of the residence. The male was taken to a safe location where he was transported to a local hospital for a gunshot wound. He is in stable condition.
Officers on scene devised a plan to rescue the injured female who was on the phone with 9-1-1 and still inside the residence. A light and sound device was used to distract the suspect as officers made entry and pulled the female to safety. She was transported to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds where she is in stable condition.
The Modesto Police SWAT and Critical Incident Teams responded to the location and attempted communicating with the suspect; however, he refused to respond to phone negotiations, public address announcements, and verbal negotiations.
Negotiation attempts continued until about 6:00 AM when SWAT officers made entry into the residence and found the suspect deceased in a bedroom by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Victor Salazar Ramirez.
Detectives responded to the residence where they continue to process the scene. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
