Modesto, CA - Police investigate a major injury collision involving a pedestrian on Coldwell Avenue.

Today at approximately 12:37 PM, officers were called to an injury collision on Coldwell Avenue, between Tully Road and College Avenue.  The investigation indicates that a tan Toyota SUV traveling eastbound came to a stop behind a Jeep Liberty that stopped to let a passenger out of the vehicle.  The driver of the Toyota suffered a medical emergency which caused him to involuntarily push down on the gas pedal.  The Toyota accelerated forward, striking the Jeep, the pedestrian who had exited the Jeep and three parked vehicles before coming to a stop.

The pedestrian, identified as 18-year-old Kurnesia Benion, was transported to a local hospital with severe leg and facial injuries.  The 53-year-old driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital for observation.  Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
