Modesto, CA - The Modesto Police Department served a search warrant at three different locations resulting in a significantly large seizure of drugs and money.

On February 9, 2014 members of the Narcotics Enforcement Team (MNET) was assisting patrol units on proactive narcotic enforcement in the 500 Block of Kansas when they contacted 29-year-old Juan Carlos Vargas Martinez of Modesto.  During the encounter Martinez was found to be in possession of over 1.5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.  Additionally, Martinez had over $4,000 cash in his vehicle.

The investigation led to three locations associated with Martinez.  A search warrant was obtained for two residences belonging to Martinez along with a storage unit.  These search warrants, two located in Modesto and one in Riverbank, lead to the seizure of an additional 8 pounds of crystal methamphetamine, $25,000 in cash, and three guns including an assault style rifle.

“It appears Martinez has been hiding this business in plain sight for some time” said Sgt. Kelly Rea, supervisor of the Narcotics Unit.  “This level of dealing is just that, a business, and neighbors may never notice it”, Rea said.

After the case was completed Juan Martinez was booked into Stanislaus County jail on two counts of possession of methamphetamine for sale, and one count of transportation of methamphetamine.  He is being held on $500,000 bail.

MNET encourages anyone who has information regarding suspected drug activity in their neighborhood to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636.  Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.  Tipsters may also text information to Crime Stoppers at 274637.  Just type “TIP704” along with your message.
