Modesto, CA – Modesto Police Detectives continue to investigate a late night shooting that left one man fatally wounded in Southeast Modesto.


On March 11, 2014 at about 11:39 PM, officers responded to a report of a shooting with a victim down near the roadway at Empire Avenue and Bonnie Brae Avenue.  They located 18-year-old Jose Anthony Cordova with a gunshot wound to the abdomen area.  He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. 


Based on the information Detectives have received so far, it appears the homicide is gang related.  The Modesto Police Department Armadillo was parked in the area where the homicide took place.  The captured video is currently being reviewed in an attempt to identify any suspects or witnesses.

UPDATE: Arrests made in connection to this Homicide

April 9, 2014, as part of an on-going investigation, detectives served three search warrants in connection with this case at various locations in Modesto.  Robert Apodaca 23-years-old of Modesto and Gabriel Lopez 20-years-old of Modesto were arrested without incident and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for the March 11th Homicide of 18-year-old Anthony Cordova.  Apodaca was also booked for violating his parole.  Visit the Modesto Police Facebook Page for the booking photos.
