Modesto CA: Major injury vehicle versus bicycle collision at Sylvan Avenue and Keller Street.
On Friday April 18th, 2014 at around 10:20 PM a bicyclist was crossing Sylvan Avenue just east of the intersection with Keller Avenue. The bicyclist and a vehicle traveling westbound on Sylvan Avenue collided in the roadway.
The bicyclist was transported to Doctors Medical Center where he remains in critical condition at this time. His injuries include major head trauma and internal injuries. He is a 25 year old male resident of Modesto. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family members. The solo occupant and driver in the vehicle did not have any injuries. He has been identified as Humberto Garcia, a 19 year old Modesto Resident.
The vehicle involved was a silver 2013 Kia Optima sedan type vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was evaluated and does not appear to have been under the influence of any drugs or alcohol consumption. The bicyclist was unconscious after the collision occurred and it has not yet been determined if he was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.
The Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit is conducting a comprehensive investigation regarding this collision. At this early stage in the investigation the exact cause of the collision has not yet been determined. Witness statements and physical evidence located at the scene of the collision are still being evaluated in order to assist with determining the cause and person responsible of this collision.
