WOMAN KILLED AFTER BEING HIT BY TRAIN ; VICTIM IDENTITY RELEASED

 

Modesto, CA – A woman was killed in downtown Modesto after she was stuck by a passing train.  Investigators are investigating the cause of the collision.

 

At about 10:55 am Modesto Police were called to “I” Street between 8th and 9th Streets to investigate a train versus pedestrian collision.  When they emergency personnel arrived they discovered a woman, originally believed to be in her 30’s or 40’s, who had been struck by a passing Union Pacific freight train.  The woman died moments later as a result of injury sustained in the collision.  The woman was later identified as 26-year-old San Jose resident Corina Laura Ayala (identity released on 9/02/09 at 3:30 PM)

 

Traffic on “I” Street was blocked for a short period of time while emergency personnel assessed the scene.

 

The Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the collision.  Investigators hope to determine why the woman stepped in front of the train.  Her identity was initially withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
