The City of Modesto is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Slamon, Interim Fire Chief, to the permanent position of Fire Chief. Chief Slamon is a 26-year veteran of the fire service and has been with the Modesto Fire Department since 1989 starting as a Firefighter and climbing through the ranks to Training Captain, Battalion Chief, and Operations Division Chief and was named Interim Fire Chief in April 2014.
Chief Slamon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Studies from California State University, Long Beach and also holds an Associate of Science degree in Fire Science from Modesto Junior College. He has also earned numerous certificates from the California State Fire Marshalls Office and FEMA in addition to being a state certified instructor in several command and management courses.
“For the past four months, Sean has served as Fire Chief and has provided steadfast and visionary leadership as the Modesto Regional Fire Authority transitioned back to the Modesto Fire Department,” said Jim Holgersson, Interim City Manager. “It is because he was able to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time and with such leadership that I appoint him to the Fire Chief position permanently and with full confidence.”
Sean has been married for 21 years to Shannon, a school teacher for Salida Middle School. Sean and Shannon have two children; Zachary, who is a senior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Courtney, who is a sophomore at Ripon High School.
