The City of Modesto operates and maintains 75 parks, including over 500 acres of turf,
one wading pool, 44 tennis courts, eight lighted ball fields, 18 group picnic sites and
over 15 miles of bike paths.
What makes a park a park? Is it just a plot of land with grass, some trees and some
play equipment? Or is there more to a park than just those things? A park is no longer
a simple space with landscaping; it is now a place where we can go to understand, relate
to and experience nature. It is alive with activities like children playing, people
walking or jogging, concerts, movie nights, festivals, picnics and family gatherings.
Parks play a large role in making Modesto an inviting place to live, work and play.
