Additional information -
Below you will find information on setting up your wallpaper. Because of all the different browsers, monitor resolutions and computer hardware
and software, this "Additional Information" is meant to be used as a general guide only. Your machine and setting may differ so if in doubt, please refer to your computer manual for
more information.
Right-clicking (if you didn't already know):
Windows users can use their right-mouse button to speed up
many tasks. The term right-click and right-clicking as they
are used here, refer to the action of holding your mouse over a graphic
and then clicking (and holding) your right mouse button. The options you
will be interested in for this section of our website are:
- "Set as Wallpaper"
- "Save Image As"
"Downloading" The Images:
- The images in this section of our site are in JPG format and are designed to fill
your screen.
- The width and height of the graphic is listed for each image. If
your resolution is set differently, you may need
to resize the graphic somehow so it will fit on your screen. There
are a number of ways to accomplish this, most of them free and easy.
- When the image is first loaded in your browser, it
is sized to fit the width of your browser window. If you are using
a Netscape browser, you should be able to select your screen width
from the "View At" box on the upper left side of the web page. Select
your preference and the image will reload (quickly, from your browser
cache) at the size you specify. You can then right-click
on the image and select "Set as Wallpaper". In most cases, your Netscape
browser will set the wallpaper with the newly scaled version. IE users
may need to resize the image another way,
but the right-click method
still applies for setting the wallpaper with a web graphic.
- Using a JPG file as your wallpaper causes your browser to create
a BMP (bitmap) file in your Windows directory. Usually this file is
called "Netscape Wallpaper" or "Internet Explorer Wallpaper" but your
settings may vary. If you have scaled the JPG to fit your desktop, then
this bitmap will be in the size you need. If you like it and want
to keep it, copy it out to your favorite image directory and save
it with a meaningful name. If you don't want to keep the bitmap, it will
be overwritten the next time you use your browser to set the wallpaper.
- You should also save the original JPG file off of the web page (right-click),
the will save you return trips and downloads. You should come
back often though, if only to check out the new stuff that shows up fairly often.
Mac Users:
Click on the link to the image you want for your desktop. Once
it has finished loading, click on the image with your mouse button and
scroll down to "Save this Image As" in the menu. Save it to your hard
drive or your desktop. Next, go to your Apple menu in the upper left
corner, scroll down to "Control Panels" and choose "Appearance". Click
on the "Desktop" tab. Click the "Place Picture..." button on the lower
right and select the location where you saved your desktop image and
press "Choose." Then, press the "Set Desktop" button in the Appearance
menu. Your image will appear on your desktop. (Note: on Mac OS 8.1,
choose "Desktop Patterns" from the control panels instead of "Appearance").
