  • About our Division

    Pruning

In addition to the forestry crews that maintain over 100,000 street and park trees, our employees are responsible for sidewalk repairs, yard trimming removal, and street sweeping. As a result, there are tremendous opportunities for coordinating work efforts and improving the efficiency of our operations.

The division includes 38 full-time employees and a number of part-time and other non-paid labor. In addition to the work they perform for the city, the division also contracts with Modesto Irrigation District to provide line clearance tree trimming for trees in city easements and with Environmental Care Industries to prune and remove trees at the City golf courses.

    • The city has been recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation as "Tree City USA" since 1980.

    • The division is an Accredited Forestry Department by the Society of Municipal Arborists since 1990

    • In November 1994, the Pearl Street Pistache was patented.

    • The original Modesto Ash in Cesar Chavez Park is recognized by the American Forestry Association National Register of Big Trees.
