Programmed Tree Pruning Schedule - Six Year Cycle

The City of Modesto prunes and/or inspects street trees on a regular, pre-determined cycle and has done so since 1980. This maintenance strategy has significant advantages in efficiency and public safety.

The City has been divided into three regions – west, east and south. These regions are on a six-year rotating cycle for pruning/inspection. City crews work systematically through each region completing a “general prune” or inspection for all public street trees before moving on to a new region. A “general prune” included the removal of deadwood, the treatment/removal of mistletoe, reducing the weigh of heavy branches/limbs and several other types of clearance pruning.

A Service Request System is in place as a way for citizens to bring to attention conditions which require special or immediate attention. Requests are either incorporated into the cycle pruning schedule or are prioritized and handled by separate crews on a more immediate schedule. Emergency calls are handled immediately.

Questions about the pruning schedule, or to report a special or immediate condition, call (209) 342-2249.
