What We Do
The Laboratory and Environmental Services section of the Wastewater Division is
responsible for ensuring the compliance of state and federal laws. Inspections of
permitted facilities and samples are periodically collected to ensure compliance with the
City’s wastewater discharge permits and storm water permits and to protect Dry Creek and the
Tuolumne River, which discharge into the San Joaquin River. Laboratory Services provides
analytical data for the monthly plant report, annual storm water report, and quarterly
pre-treatment report that directly support compliance with the City’s wastewater and storm
water permits. In addition, the laboratory also supports the Water Division of Public Works
by providing nitrate and nitrite analysis and microbiology testing to ensure compliance
with drinking water regulatory requirements.
