Drought Information

Modesto, along with the rest of the state entered its fourth year of Drought! The State Water Resource Control Board is mandating a 36% reduction in water use. The City is taking the necessary steps to meet this goal. On April 28, 2015, the Utilities Department drafted and recommended to Council to approve and adopt a revised Drought Contingency Plan and enter Stage II. It was approved and on May 1, 2015 it went into effect.

Stage II of the Drought Contingency plan requires our water customers to water on a two day schedule. Addresses ending in an even number can water on Tuesday & Saturdays before 9:00 am or after 7:00pm. Addresses ending in an odd number can water on Wednesday’s & Sunday’s before 9:00 am or after 7:00 pm. We cannot water on Monday, Thursday or Fridays.

It also requires our water customers to use a positive shut-off nozzle when car washing on approved watering days/times. Hosing concrete areas, building exteriors, etc.., is prohibited except for health/safety concerns and only with use of a positive shutoff nozzle. Water leaks, once identified must be repaired within 24 hours. Restaurants and food service establishments are prohibited from serving water except upon request. No use of outdoor fountains except for maintenance purposes. No irrigating turf or ornamental landscapes during and 48 hours following measureable rain.

Taking these steps and working together The City of Modesto can meet its goal and Save Water! We will continue to monitor the Drought and post any relevant information on this website. Thank you for doing your part to Save Water!
