The Building Safety Division and the Neighborhood Preservation Unit is now open to the public. We are open for walk-ins from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. Fridays are by appointment only.

Code enforcement officers are continuing to respond to complaints received from the community. For more information on reporting a violation click on the "Code Enforcement" tab.

New e-TRAKiT Permits Portal

On August  23, 2021, the City of Modesto launched a new Permits Portal. You can now upload your building permits and apply for most permits online. 

Our Teams

  • Building Safety Inspections: This team schedules and conducts all Building Inspections, averaging over 5,000 inspections a month.
  • Building Permits: The Building and Development Services team can assist residents and developers with all building permits, including renewals and extensions.
  • City Building Codes: This team maintains all City building codes and standards.
  • Code Enforcement: The Code Enforcement team helps maintain and improve the quality of our community through awareness, education and enforcement.
  • Plan Reviews: All new construction projects in the City of Modesto must go through the Plan Review process.
