Organized Retail Theft Grant Awarded to Modesto
September 27, 2023 - Modesto, CA
The City of Modesto has been selected to receive an Organized Retail Theft grant from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) worth $6,003,419.
With the approval from the Modesto City Council, the Modesto Police Department applied for this grant to combat Organized Retail Theft and Motor Vehicle/Motor Vehicle Accessory Theft.
Modesto PD has developed a program called "Modesto's Retail and Motor Vehicle Theft Program," funded primarily by this grant. The program will implement a 5-pronged approach: community outreach, collaboration with retailers, leveraging equipment and technology, social media utilization, and directed enforcement.
By capitalizing on our experience, capacity, and strong relationships with key stakeholders, including allied agencies, retailers, and the District Attorney's Office, Modesto PD aims to rapidly deploy resources to identify and combat current and emerging trends.
This robust program will enhance the quality of life for Modesto citizens, reduce crime, and alleviate community concerns while working and shopping in our city. It will also support local commercial retailers, attracting and retaining them by actively ensuring their success in providing essential services for our community both now and in the future.
The Modesto City Council approved this grant for our department last night at the city council meeting.
Funding for this grant will be available October 1, 2023.
We are excited about the positive impact this grant will have on our community and believe that together, we can truly make a difference.
