Modesto, CA – Detectives have arrested 18-year-old Seth Becknel for the 2017 murder and sexual assault of 41-year-old Jenny Wu.

At 9 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, officers responded to the 1500 block of Grape near Evergreen on a reported person down in the alleyway.  Upon arrival, officers discovered the partially unclothed woman was deceased.  Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.  The preliminary findings suggested that the victim, identified as 41-year-old Jenny Wu, was a reported missing person from a nearby care facility.

Detectives have continued to work the case and recently received a DNA match from the Department of Justice Crime Lab.  With that DNA match Detectives were able to connect other evidence and leads which lead to the arrest of Becknel, who was 17-years-old at the time of the murder and sexual assault.

The Modesto Police Department would like to thank the Department of Justice Crime Lab, the Stanislaus County Probation Office and the Citizens of Modesto for their help in resolving this case and bringing justice to Jenny Wu.
