GOOD NEWS!
STATE AWARDS MODESTO $8.5 MILLION FOR CHAVEZ PARK

I am so pleased to announce that our Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods department has been successful in obtaining a grant worth $8.5 million for Cesar E. Chavez Park.

In all, 478 proposals were submitted to the State for a share of the Proposition 68 Statewide Park Program Grants, and Modesto’s Chavez Park was one of only 62 projects awarded the funds.  According to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, “This competitive program will create new parks and new recreation opportunities in under-served communities across California.” Read Full Blog Post (2/25/2020)

GO GREEN WEEK

FREE RIDES DURING GO GREEN WEEK

The four transit providers in Stanislaus County, including Ceres Area Transit (CAT), Modesto Area Express (MAX), Stanislaus County Regional Transit (StaRT), and Turlock Transit will offer free rides on all fixed route buses from March 15 through 21 as part of a joint Go Green Week free ride promotion. FUTURE OF MUNI GOLF COURSE

The City of Modesto Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department would like to invite you to attend a community meeting to discuss the future of the Muni Golf Course property. First meeting is Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm at the Mancini Hall Senior Center. The second meeting will be held Thursday, March 19, 2020 (same time) at the King-Kennedy Memorial Center.

MODESTO'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY

This month, as part of the City's 150th birthday, get out and enjoy Modesto's vast park system!  Have you biked along the Virginia Corridor yet? This 4.2 mile trail follows the old Tidewater Southern Rail line from Needham to Bangs Avenue and has several amenities along the way, including picnic areas, barbecues, and gardens. In addition, Lions Park, on the Corridor, features a splash pad and playground.

WATER RATE INCREASE

On August 9, 2016 City Council reviewed and adopted a Water Rate and Fee Study that included an annual review of the water rate increase. On October 22, 2019 City Council reviewed and adopted the scheduled water rate increase of 6%, effective April 1, 2020.
