POLICE CHIEF GALEN CARROLL RETIRING
Modesto on November 19, 2020 Chief Galen Carroll announced his plan to retire from the Modesto Police Department (MPD) on December 25, 2020. Chief Carroll started with the Police Department in January 2013. During his tenure at MPD, part 1 crimes decreased 24% from 11,693 in 2013 to 8,954 in 2019; part 1 crimes include murder, manslaughter, sex offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and arson.

Chief Carroll built the Real Time Crime Center and implemented an Intelligence Led Policing Strategy to put the city's limited resources in hot crime areas to have the biggest impact. He established the Modesto Police Clergy Council to help forge and strengthen relationships with our community, and developed a culture of transparency with the public. Chief Carroll also re-implemented Area Commands and town hall meetings, and worked to strengthen relationships throughout the city.

"Chief Carroll has been relentless in his support of all that we stand for in Modesto, and we owe a great deal of gratitude to him for his contributions in and out of the uniform," said City Manager Joe Lopez. "Our city is safer and more resilient because of Galen's leadership, and I'm proud of his accomplishments in building so many strong bridges throughout this community.”

CELEBRATING MODESTO'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY

In honor of Modesto's 150th Anniversary this month we are celebrating our arts & entertainment. Each month we have been celebrating various themes throughout our community from our history, location, parks & outdoors, agriculture & industry and now our arts & entertainment. Although the recent pandemic has really made this year a challenge for many of our local arts & entertainment offerings we encourage you to stay connected with them via social media. This industry has been severely impacted by the many closures since the beginning of the pandemic and will be the last to reopen to the public.
As you consider your year-end giving we ask that you consider donating to your favorite local arts & entertainment organizations.
