CITY MANAGER'S BLOG
Developing the City budget is one of the most important actions of our organization. On June 22, City Council approved the 2021-2022 budget for the next fiscal year. I’m proud to say that this budget reflects community priorities identified in the City’s Strategic Plan and balances our needs with financial restraint.

Modesto is currently in a period of transition. We’re moving out of the economic downturn and the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. While these events are ongoing, the City is making its way towards recovery.

COVID-19 SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Owner Terry Chang opened Hoki Korean BBQ & Japanese Cuisine nearly two years ago. Like many restaurants, Hoki closed for three weeks at the start of the pandemic and then offered only take out for a time with reduced hours. Terry applied for the City’s COVID-19 Small Business Assistance Program in early 2020 and received a zero-interest, forgivable loan that covered up to two months of operating expenses to take some of the load off. “Thank you, to our customers and the City, for supporting local business. We wouldn’t be here without your support,” said Terry. Hoki is now open for dine-in. In addition to the TVs, there’s another form of entertainment while you eat: Hoki has in-restaurant robots that quickly and efficiently deliver your food directly from the kitchen to your table.

FREE RIDES

Welcome back to public transit with free rides in August and September on Modesto Area Express (MAX) and Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT)! All services are free, including Dial-A-Ride!

Public transportation is safe and here for you. MAX & StaRT buses are sanitized nightly with hospital-grade disinfectant. For your safety, masks remain required while riding. MAX and StaRT have merged to form the new Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority (StanRTA).

You can hear the latest developments about the new StanRTA, and even provide input, by attending StanRTA Board of Directors meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month. The meetings are virtual, so attendance is easy. Visit stanrta.org for more information.
