Release Date: June 22, 2022
On Tuesday, at approximately 9:20 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 500 block of Ramsey Drive after a call came in from a juvenile stating their mom had been shot. When officers arrived they located the victim, 29-year-old Michelle Rose Gonzales, suffering from gunshot wounds outside of her home. Michelle succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Detectives responded and continued the investigation. They quickly identified the suspect and learned he was the potential suspect in a homicide that occurred in San Jose around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, just prior to committing the homicide in Modesto. While working with San Jose Police Department on this investigation, we were notified this morning that the suspect was located traveling towards San Jose and had become involved in a pursuit with the California Highway Patrol. The pursuit ended in a San Jose neighborhood where the suspect fled from the vehicle and barricaded himself at a residence.
Reports from San Jose Police Department stated an officer involved shooting occurred during the stand-off with the suspect. The suspect was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries. No officer related injuries have been reported at this time.
The identity of the suspect will not be released by the Modesto Police Department due to the ongoing investigation by San Jose Police Department.
We’d like to extend our deepest sympathy to Michelle’s family and friends for their tragic loss.
