[ARCHIVED] Modesto Woman Fatally Wounded in Vehicle Collision

At about 2:00 pm yesterday, first responders were called to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at Standiford Avenue and Tully Road.  Once on scene, officers found 69-year-old Terri Churchill suffering from critical injuries.  Emergency medical personnel began life saving measures as they rushed Churchill to a nearby hospital.  Several hours later officers were notified that the injuries Churchill suffered were fatal.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Churchill was walking northbound across Standiford Avenue near Tully Road outside of the crosswalk.  As she was crossing the roadway, a vehicle traveling westbound on Standiford in the #1 lane stopped.  A second vehicle, a 2007 Hyundai Sonata, traveling below the speed limit in the #2 lane did not stop and collided into Churchill.  The driver of the Hyundai remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

As standard practice in a fatal vehicle collision, the Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit has initiated a comprehensive collision investigation. This investigation is in the early stages and witness statements, as well as physical evidence, are being thoroughly evaluated.  At this point drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.

If you have any information regarding this collision, please contact Officer Brian Ferguson at fergusonb@modestopd.com or Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.  Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
