[ARCHIVED] Modesto Police Close the Door on Illegal Marijuana Dispensary

Modesto, CA- On June 25, 2018, Investigators with the Modesto Narcotics Enforcement Team (MNET) closed down the last known Marijuana dispensary in Modesto.

An investigation into the illegal business located at 112 East Fairmont Avenue, started after several citizen complaints were made about the marijuana dispensary.  The owner of the dispensary, Paulo Canto, 41, had been notified by the City of Modesto and by the Modesto Police Department that he was operating an illegal business.  He did not have a state license to sell marijuana and he had no City of Modesto business license.  Canto had applied for a permit with Modesto to open a dispensary, but was denied.  The City of Modesto has not issued any marijuana dispensary permits since the laws in California have changed.

Other marijuana dispensaries in Modesto shut down voluntarily after receiving notice from Modesto Police Department and the City of Modesto that they were running illegal businesses.

MNET has worked in partnership with the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office and Modesto’s City Attorney’s Office.

If you have any information regarding criminal activity, please call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.  Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
