[ARCHIVED] City Receives 60K Grant for Recycling Efforts

The Solid Waste Division of the City of Modesto’s Public Works Department was recently awarded a grant from CalRecycle in the amount of $52,919.00 to provide education, advertising and recycling resources in the our community.

Under the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act, CalRecycle distributed $10,500.000.00 to eligible cities and counties in California specifically for beverage container recycling and litter clean-up activities.

The goal of Cal Recycles beverage container recycling program is to reach and maintain an 80 percent recycling rate for all California Refund Value (CRV) beverage containers-aluminum, glass, plastic and bi-metal. Projects implemented by cities and counties will assist in reaching and maintaining this goal.

CalRecycle funds will support the City/County recycling program beginning December 13, 2016 through June 29, 2018.  Funding for a part-time service aide, recycling education, advertising, beverage containers and maintenance supplies will be covered by funds provided with the grant.
