The City of Modesto Municipal Primary Election Candidate Nomination period is now open. Persons wishing to run for office for Mayor will be able to file nomination petitions Monday, November 13, 2023 – Friday, December 8, 2023.
Qualifications:
- Candidate must have been a registered voter in the City for thirty (30) days prior to filing nomination papers (Modesto Charter Section 701)
- The Mayor is elected at-large
- Must live in the City of Modesto
If no candidate for Mayor receives the majority of votes cast for that office in the Primary, the two candidates who received the highest number of votes shall move forward to the November Regular Municipal Election for a run-off.
The Primary Election will be held for the election of Mayoral candidates only.
Candidates must schedule an appointment with the City Clerk (209) 577-5398 to obtain a nomination packet.
Nomination packets are only issued during the official nomination period.
The vote centers will be open between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, March 5, 2024
