Forecasts from the National Weather Service are calling for notable changes in the weather for Northern California this weekend. In the Modesto area we expect to experience from 1"-5" over the weekend with the heaviest rainfall expected to arrive Saturday afternoon and last through Monday morning. In this storm, winds are a concern as well. We are expecting sustained winds between 15-20 mph and gusts up to 40mph. We anticipate localized flooding and the possibility of downed trees through the weekend. We are closely watching the area where Dry Creek and the Tuolumne River converge. While we have been informed that flows should be manageable there is a possibility of localized flooding.
The safety and well-being of our residents is our number one priority. We have been watching this storm for the better part of this week. When storm events occur, several City departments work in tandem to prepare and respond. Police, Fire, Parks, Utilities and Public Works have increased weekend staffing to manage and respond to emergencies. Stanislaus County Office of Emergency Services is in communication with state and local jurisdictions and the National Weather Service. Storm related calls will be prioritized. Emergencies will be responded to first.
