[ARCHIVED] Downtown Streets Team Will be Closing Their Doors to Service

DSC_1157

Modesto, CA, August 29, 2025 - The Modesto City Council has remained committed to prioritizing funding and services that create lasting pathways to stability and housing for people experiencing homelessness in our community.  With the establishment of the Camp2Home initiative in 2020, the City is providing a pathway to self-sufficiency for people trying to rebuild their lives out of homelessness.

Community collaboration is, and has always been, instrumental in developing a successful strategy for addressing homelessness.   Since 2019, the Downtown Streets Team (DST) has been one of the critical partners of the Camp2Home initiative, whose mission is to fight homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community.

DST has made significant progress in providing opportunities for people to participate in community beautification and has provided vital case management and peer support to individuals.  DST has served nearly 400 individuals, supported 182 individuals with a housing opportunity, and helped 127 in securing an employment opportunity while also creating a better quality of life for Modesto residents by removing approximately 2.6 million pounds of trash from the city streets and parks. DST has had a tremendous impact on this community.

Unfortunately, the DST organization has announced that it will be ceasing operations effective October 31, 2025.  This is disappointing news for our community. The City of Modesto will continue to prioritize services while creating a coordinated approach with public and private partners to identify options for this important work to continue.
