[ARCHIVED] BEARD BROOK PARK TO GET SUMMER MAKEOVER

Santa Fe Train NO2921 at Beard Brook Park

We take pride in our history as a city and as a region, and place high priority on the maintenance of our local iconic landmarks through partnership. As part of their ongoing commitment to safety, PG&E has recognized the need to relocate the locomotive currently in Modesto’s Beard Brook Park. Relocating the locomotive will allow the city to maintain the historically significant artifact in the safest way possible and ensures that PG&E can safely and quickly access underground utilities in the park if the need arises.

The City of Modesto and PG&E have worked closely to identify a new location for the locomotive, deciding that the Amtrak Train Station on Held Drive in East Modesto is the most suitable location. PG&E will pay for the relocation expenses in total while the City of Modesto will take on the maintenance plan for the locomotive, ensuring it remains in proper condition in its new location as a tribute to our city’s rail history.

As an important component of this relocation plan, we are also excited to announce that PG&E will help construct a new dog park at Beard Brook. This enclosed park will feature separate areas for large and small dogs, drinking fountains for people and their pets, areas to re-leash dogs before leaving the park, and several seating areas. This will be the most expansive dog park in the city.

Both phases of the project are expected to be completed by Fall 2017.
