Fares to ride Modesto Area Express (MAX) and Modesto Area Dial-A-Ride (MADAR) will increase Thursday, February 1, 2018 in an effort to meet a state law requirement that fares cover a minimum of 20% of transit operating costs. MAX and MADAR have not raised prices since 2014.
Cash fares on MAX will increase by $.50 to $2.00 for regular adult riders, by $.25 to $1.50 for students, by $.25, to $1.00 for seniors and persons with disabilities, and by $.75 to $4.00 for an all-day pass. MAX ticket books increase approximately 18% and monthly passes will increase by approximately 29%. Fares for MAX’s commuter express service to BART and ACE will remain the same.
The Modesto Area Dial-A-Ride (MADAR) cash fare will remain at $3.00. A ten-ride ticket book will increase by $.30 per ticket to $30.00. A complete list of new fares can be found online.
In an effort to increase the MAX system performance and efficiency, various route changes will accompany the fare changes. Some routes will be altered and a few routes will be combined or eliminated. All route changes can be found online.
These route changes aim to improve the MAX system for everyone and hopefully will entice more Modesto residents to get out of their car and utilize MAX to get around town.
